You’ll have the opportunity to learn about what happens behind the scenes to prepare the show for opening night. When you’ve finished your degree, you’ll be ready to start your career as an artist or to transfer to a four-year program of your choosing.

The Business Administration Department offers one degree and two certificate programs for students who are interested in the fields of business, bookkeeping or financial accounting. Choose among programs that will prepare you to transfer to a four-year institution with a strong business foundation or provide you with the technical knowledge and credentials to be a full-charge bookkeeper or a certified public accountant (CPA).

The Cade Center for Fine Arts Gallery is on the western side of AACC’s Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. Located on the main floor of the Cade building on West Campus, The Cade Art Gallery at Anne Arundel Community College features five exhibits a year. The span of exhibiting artists is broad, yet each exhibit is focused by theme or medium. You can encounter an installation project juried by a museum curator or the latest painting by an AACC student.

Each of the topics studied in economics – inflation, unemployment, monetary policy, globalization, markets, trade – could be pulled from any day’s headlines. In a nutshell, economics is the study of how and why we spend our resources. The “we” can be us as individuals, a business or government. Through the discipline of economics, you can cultivate life skills and a better understanding of the society and world in which we live.

AACC's Department of Economics offers foundational courses that support further study in economics, business, law, public policy and more. We also offer a certificate in Data Literacy through which students can learn to interpret and analyze data with the use of statistical software. If you wish to major in economics at a four-year institution, we can put you on that path through a Transfer Studies degree. You’ll be well-prepared by supportive faculty who are devoted to teaching and the discipline of economics.

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A CERTIFICATE IN DATA LITERACY?
As more and more organizations are being asked to use data for everything from compliance and quality control to identifying target markets and cost savings, it’s important to have a data-literate staff to help managers make informed business decisions. A data-literate person has the ability to identify and use data to analyze trends and anomalies, communicate what the data uncovered and recommend next steps.

Certificate holders will be able to:

Use Microsoft Access to study and manipulate data
Use IBM SPSS Statistics and Microsoft Excel for data analysis
Write questions that can be answered with the help of data
Determine what data is necessary to address a question
Interpret the statistical significance or results in a report
Apply results to a business or policy question to support better decision making
Roles that could be enhanced with data literacy skills include office managers, executive assistants, HR/benefits specialists, project managers and others.

The English department at AACC is home to composition, literature and creative writing. The aim of the English department is to prepare you to be a more effective reader, writer and thinker and to help you develop your abilities to understand and appreciate literature and other cultures.

Whether you struggle or excel in English, we meet you where you are. At every level we work to improve your mastery of English grammar, punctuation and sentence structure, as well as your capacity to organize and express ideas in writing. In our English classes, you will develop critical thinking and analysis skills. Along the way, we can help you explore literature of the Americas and the world's many cultures, great writing informs both new and old, and classic literary themes in their cultural contexts. In our Creative Writing courses, explore your boundless imagination, sharpen your critical thinking and hone your writing skills for our student publications and beyond.

The Entrepreneurial Studies Institute (ESI) provides resources to help aspiring entrepreneurs and seasoned business owners start, manage and grow successful business ventures. Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of entrepreneurship and the steps required to start a business. In addition, many students earning a degree in entrepreneurship work with others to identify business opportunities, join entrepreneurial ventures, or work for an established organization. Entrepreneurship graduates are often in demand by growth-oriented companies wanting to incorporate entrepreneurial vision and innovation in their firms.

The Homeland Security & Criminal Justice Institute is comprised of experts in the areas of criminal and juvenile justice, jurisprudence, and homeland security. The Legal Studies Institute (LSI) is a leading provider of credit and noncredit legal education programs and training, offering: Paralegal Studies Degree and Certificate programs that are approved by the American Bar Association; a Law and Jurisprudence Pre-Law Transfer Degree program, and a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program. Experienced attorneys, judges, paralegals, and mediators teach the courses in all LSI programs. Courses are offered in traditional, online, and accelerated formats during the daytime, evening and some on Saturdays

The Performing Arts department offers a wide array of classes from entry level, general education core courses to advanced training designed to prepare students for vocations in the fields of Dance, Music and Theatre. A two-year course of study leads to an associate of arts degree in arts and science with a concentration in music, dance or theatre, taught by instructors with a wealth of professional experience and strong academic credentials. The Visual Arts department offers a selection of courses ranging from the traditional fine arts to digital design and time-based media. If you plan to transfer, move into the workforce and/or continue your educational journey, this is the place for you. Our innovative curriculum emphasizes both the technical and conceptual aspects of visual art and design. We offer a diverse range of programs and our newest course additions include Animation and Lithography – a perfect analogy to the breadth of our programming. As a Visual Arts student, you can participate in professional internships, study abroad programs, community art exhibits and public lectures by visiting professionals.
