Amaranth is AACC's annually published journal of literature and the arts. Amaranth is a journal that is run by students to publish the artistic work of current and former AACC students. We publish fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, drama, visual art & photography.

Amaranth also sponsors a monthly Coffeehouse. This open mic event is a great forum where students can read literary work, perform music, show visual art, and display the amazing talent here at AACC.

Participating in Amaranth will give students hands-on experience with developing a creative arts journal from conception through production. All major decisions for the journal (including content and design choices) will be made by the student staff and in coordination with the Faculty Advisor.



With the support and guidance of the faculty advisor, student staff will be able to develop a professional attitude about writing and publishing, cultivating transferable skills of leadership, organization, critical evaluation of creative work, teamwork and team building for fields such as editing, proofreading, marketing, publishing, and writing.

The Cade Center for Fine Arts Gallery is on the western side of AACC’s Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. Located on the main floor of the Cade building on West Campus, The Cade Art Gallery at Anne Arundel Community College features five exhibits a year. The span of exhibiting artists is broad, yet each exhibit is focused by theme or medium. The English department at AACC is home to composition, literature and creative writing. The aim of the English department is to prepare you to be a more effective reader, writer and thinker and to help you develop your abilities to understand and appreciate literature and other cultures.

Whether you struggle or excel in English, we meet you where you are. At every level we work to improve your mastery of English grammar, punctuation and sentence structure, as well as your capacity to organize and express ideas in writing. In our English classes, you will develop critical thinking and analysis skills. Along the way, we can help you explore literature of the Americas and the world's many cultures, great writing informs both new and old, and classic literary themes in their cultural contexts. In our Creative Writing courses, explore your boundless imagination, sharpen your critical thinking and hone your writing skills for our student publications and beyond.

What is the Leadership Challenge Program?
The Leadership Challenge Program focuses on developing students into active leaders and positive change-makers. It consists of workshops throughout the academic year that focus on the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership. In addition to learning about these practices, students attend other leadership opportunities of their choosing as electives and complete a Leadership Change project throughout the spring semester. The program follows a small cohort model, allowing students to develop deeper connections as they move through the program together.

The Legal Studies Institute (LSI) is a leading provider of credit and noncredit legal education programs and training, offering: Paralegal Studies Degree and Certificate programs that are approved by the American Bar Association; a Law and Jurisprudence Pre-Law Transfer Degree program, and a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program. Experienced attorneys, judges, paralegals, and mediators teach the courses in all LSI programs. Courses are offered in traditional, online, and accelerated formats during the daytime, evening and some on Saturdays

A student lead "non-profit" Theatre In the fall of 1973, the students discovered that creating an AACC college student club can provide an opportunity for funding productions.

Established with the Student Government Association, the newly formed Moonlight Troupers got straight to work with their modest SGA budget on their first production, Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town”. Their name derived out of who they were. "Moonlight" because late at night was when they did most of their work since most of them were full time students, and many of them had part or full time jobs. "Troupers" because not only were they troopers for having such dedication and putting forth such hard work, but groups of theatrical performers are typically referred to as Troupes. The club and program owe most of their existence to the man whose name graces the theater he helped to build; Robert E. Kauffman, also known by many simply as "Chief". His enthusiastic teaching and leadership here at AACC inspired cohort after cohort of student performers and designers to develop the skills and dedication needed to form a career in the highly competitive world of theatrical entertainment. We hope to continue his legacy here by focusing on providing an environment separate from the academic program that gives students a chance to have a say in what activities the club does.

The club is now run as though it were a 501c-3 Non-Profit Theatre Company. It has everything from a student executive board to a professional audition process. Many aspiring performers and designers begin with a deep-seated passion for theatrical storytelling, but lose heart when difficult professional and financial realities set in. Our aim is to challenge and prepare our students to accept and deal with those realities without losing their love of what they do.

We, students of nursing preparing for initial licensure as registered nurses and/or licensed practical nurses believe there is a common need to organize, to represent ourselves to the consumer and other health disciplines, and to assume our rightful place in the profession of nursing. We believe every citizen has a right to the highest quality of health care. We believe in the development of the whole person toward his/ her professional role with its rights, responsibilities and ideals. We believe every right bears inherent responsibility.

The Performing Arts department offers a wide array of classes from entry level, general education core courses to advanced training designed to prepare students for vocations in the fields of Dance, Music and Theatre. A two-year course of study leads to an associate of arts degree in arts and science with a concentration in music, dance or theatre, taught by instructors with a wealth of professional experience and strong academic credentials. Our program provides coursework that focus on technical skills, theory and hands-on experience in an environment that encourages imagination, creativity and self-expression.

This two-day leadership conference is open to all students, regardless of leadership experience. Through a variety of presentations, students will gain a deeper understanding of how to serve as leaders and apply leadership skills to their personal experiences and goals. Students who attend at least five sessions will earn a Riverhawks Rise Certificate.

Supply Chain Management is the oversight of information, finances and materials as they move from supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler to retailer to consumer. You’ll be taught by instructors with current industry experience. Through field trips and hands-on activities, you’ll learn about all five modes of transportation and intermodal transportation. You can earn a credential in just 18 credit hours that allows you to enter this thriving and well-paid field. You can also advance your education and your career at a pace that suits you.

The Visual Arts department offers a selection of courses ranging from the traditional fine arts to digital design and time-based media. If you plan to transfer, move into the workforce and/or continue your educational journey, this is the place for you. Our innovative curriculum emphasizes both the technical and conceptual aspects of visual art and design. We offer a diverse range of programs and our newest course additions include Animation and Lithography – a perfect analogy to the breadth of our programming. All students and skill levels are welcome to participate in the visual arts programs available at AACC.
As a Visual Arts student, you can participate in professional internships, study abroad programs, community art exhibits and public lectures by visiting professionals. Our curriculum provides a broad appreciation of the visual arts across varying fields of study, artistic styles and media. You will be encouraged to develop critical thinking skills, incorporate new technology into their work, and explore new and evolving fields. We offer departmental scholarships to students, as well as individual advising in their core area of interest.
